Join us for Hui Ye's concluding presentation, From Hand to Touch: In Search of Protective Vibration, as part of the 6th edition of UnderCURRENTS. This series features irregular experimental events occurring outside the regular exhibition program. Through sounds, performances, or talks, each session highlights an artist or thinker presenting their current investigations, offering a platform to explore half-formed ideas with audience interaction and immediate feedback.

In the form of a geomantic formation, Hui constructs a temporary sonic sculpture using materials gathered during her research journey in Hong Kong. Pursuing the notion of composing a new mantra—an arrangement of vocal sounds that transcend semantic meaning—she engages with various spiritual and esoteric rituals, encountering practitioners who employ the voice as a primary tool in their practice. During a live performance that weaves together the city’s spiritual soundscape and diverse voices transmitting verbal—or rather non-verbal—information, the artist seeks to reveal the hidden mantra that carries a continuous, protective vibration.

Hui Ye (Vienna/ Guangzhou) is a Vienna-based artist and composer specializing in electroacoustic composition. Her work spans experimental documentary, video, and audio installations, examining the socio-political dimensions of listening and the fluidity of social identity through technology and sonic culture. As the current artist-in-residence at Current Plans, Hui Ye is focusing on oral-based rituals, (non-semantic) mantras, and spiritual channeling. She will present a durational sound performance featuring AI-modified voice synthesis, blending her own voice with artificiality to recite incantations.
